Cleaning up and Spontaneity
Hello again,
I hope that everyone is doing well. I had a rather relaxing Memorial Day weekend this past week. Between the rainy Saturday and the Air Quality warnings, I spent most of my time working on my sewing projects.
China Rose Twirlable
Due to the fray-ability of brocade, I worked on my hem. I removed my initial hem gather stitch and basted a new one in a better spot. Following this I went to the ironing board. I marked the hem fold and the 2 cm "hair cut" to remove the massive amount of fraying. The hem then received its "hair cut" with pinking shears, and was then the hem line was pressed.
With all of that prep work complete, I was finally able to attempt Gertie's circle hem. I pulled the gather stitch. Using the water soluble tape that I love so much, I taped down the hem tape to the edge of the skirt. I then pinned all of this in place to ensure that nothing would shift. Then it was time to attach the two.
Next was more pinning. With the hem tape attached to the bottom of the skirt, I pinned the hem tape to the skirt proper. It is now waiting to be hand-stitched. I also re-pinned the bottom of the yoke lining to be hand-stitched as well. Now I am slowing working on the hand-stitching to finish everything off.
Sunday
I have been scouting at JoAnn's off and on for the past month. I have been good and haven't bought anything. Instead, I have been saving the things that I like to my "Wish list." There was fabric that I liked but was unable to locate on their website that I desired to make into a summer dress. Yes, I am currently going through summer dress fever right now. So I went to JoAnn's. I was unable to locate the fabric that I was seeking, but I found others.
I finally found fabric in the shade of blue that I desired for my next major project. This is the real reason why I have been scouting out JoAnn's so often. I had a specific shade that I wanted "Dylon China Blue." Most candidates that I came across were in the turquoise-teal family, which needless to say I would not be satisfied with.
With the above mention of summer dress fever, I did an impulse purchase of pre-smocked summer dress fabric that I've been eyeing. I am half way through the French Seam of this.
Well that's it for this week. Until next time...
