Easter Surprises

Hello again.  I hope that everyone had an enjoyable Easter this past week.  My Easter was unpredictable but good.  Then again with Easter and April Fool's coinciding on the same day, I wouldn't expect anything else.  So this weeks post is dedicated completely to my Easter, and there is craftiness involved.

Easter Lunch

It was determined that the Easter family meal (immediate family only) would be lunch at my brother's place.  I rode along in my parents van with all the menu-ed food for the meal.  When we arrived, we entered  my brother's house via the garage.  He has an indoor cat that attempts to get outside, and it is easier to prevent escape treating the garage as a canal gate.

Within the first 15 minutes there, the doorbell rang and my dad let the person in.  In walks a young man who could pass for one of my brother's friends.  My folks and I really didn't think much of it.  My brother is rather social and sometimes a friend or two will pop by while we are there.  This man stays standing near the entry way of the dining area and doesn't say anything.  After a while of no one introducing the other, my mom took the initiative and introduced ourselves.  That's when the man announced that he was at the wrong house, and left.

Shortly after he left, we all had a little bit of a laugh.  While my parents and I thought that he was a friend of my brother's, my brother thought that he was either the colleague or colleague's son of my mom's.  This is why he didn't say or do anything when the stranger came in.

The rest of the visit was the usual of good food and conversation... and laughing at this stranger incident.

Detour Home

After a good visit with my brother, my family loaded up the van and headed home.  On the way home we passed the new house of our former neighbors.  While we passed the father and daughter were outside, so we honked "Hello" as we drove by.  Within 5 minutes of passing them the mom of the family called and told us to turn around to visit.  Needless to say we did.

They showed us around there new place that left us happy for them.  Their previous home was a starter home and could fit inside their new family room.  They needed breathing room.  We were taken on the grand tour while the Daughter was recording with a cell phone the reactions to her "pranks" (Post-it Note covered Powder Room & Toy avalanche door).   After the grand tour, we (the adults) were catching up with each other.

After a while the Daughter was getting bored.  She played a radio that she was informed to quit because it was too loud.  Eventually, she pulled out one of her American Girl Dolls named Ann and began draping Ann with a knit skirt.  Me being me went over to check it out and offer my assistance to the Daughter.  Together, the Daughter and I worked together and created an entire ensemble for Ann using the skirt, scissors, thread and foam board from scratch in the few hours that my family was there.  The result was 100% the Daughter's design vision.  I simply assisted her in realizing her vision.

During construction, the Daughter showed me her "Sew Crafty Kit."  Supply wise it was good for a "kids" kit.  It had a little bit of everything to sew, embroider, knit and crochet.   Instructions, however, was a different story.  It was lame.  There were only two stitches in the "Sewing Section" of the manual.  I naturally informed her that I had better books at home.  I did not mention this to her but I missed some of my supplies, mainly my marking tools.  Trying to mark a straight line on knit fabric with a Number 2 pencil does not work.

While working on the ensemble, we talked.  The Daughter mentioned that she was interested in taking sewing for 4H.  I remembered my 1 year of 4H and the outfit that I made for the final project.  We also talked about dolls and I showed her a picture of all of my dolls and went into the story of some of them.  The Mom mentioned that I should come around sometime and work on sewing with the Daughter.  My Josefina, Nellie and Isabelle want me to do this as well.  So I more than likely will sometime.

Within a half hour of completing Ann's new ensemble, my family left after a good visit.  While leaving, Mother Nature decided that it was the perfect time to snow, which being an April Fool's Prank mostly melted the following day.

So that was my Easter.

I hope that all of you out there have a good week and find at least one thing that brings you joy.

Until next time...
