Construction Finale

Hello again.  Well its been two weeks since my last post.  With no forewarning, it was not intentional.

Week One...

Two weeks ago, I was sick with Bronchitis (yet again) and with the cold temperatures outside I put myself under house arrest that weekend.  This coupled with attending the Jonathan Alder's Suesical the Musical, gave me the motivation that I needed to finally begin my "Vernal Project: Dahlia V3 (V1 bodice with V2 skirt) - China Rose Twirlable."  I wanted to see how far I could get with making the dress with the hope of wearing it to the musical this past Saturday.  With working with V2 of this pattern in the past, I knew most of the fit adjustments required and completed them while drafting the pattern pieces.  This was my focus and my main priority that first week.

With all of my pattern pieces complete (including my fan-out skirt pieces), I was finally able to begin the mock-up.  I cut and pinned the mock-up.  What hand sewing I could do at while on breaks at work, I did.  Several people in the break room were interested in what I was doing, naturally.  I haven't dealt much with sleeves as a whole, and never with the Colette Pattern.  Time being short, I only stitched up the bodice with sleeves for fit purposes.  It fit well with no adjustments required.  I then deemed myself ready to move onto the final project.

For the Finale, I cut out all of the pieces, except for the Eyelash Lace Sleeve. I wanted to try thread tracing and tailor's tacks, which was better in dealing with transferring the markings to both sides compared to what I had done in the past.  I have never worked with that type of lace before, and do not desire to cut it until I am ready to sew it, for fear of it unraveling.  Again whatever hand-stitching I could do at work, I did.  I sewed the side seams of the waist bands together, the skirt panels to each other, and completed "Bound Seams" for finishing off the skirt seams.  I wanted to give the bound seams a try, but also with the fabric being fray-able brocade, I figured it was the best option for this project.

This is as far as I got Thursday night, when I recognized the fact that I was unable to complete the project in time.  I wasn't going to kill myself in attempting to get this done.  So with that I put it on hold and took Friday off.

Week Two...

Putting everything on the back-burner to see how far I could marathon through my project, this past week was focused on taking care of the chores that I didn't touch the previous week.  Yep... my realm looked like a tornado disaster zone.  So I did not make any progress on my belated "Vernal Project: Dahlia V3 - China Rose" this week.

As for the musical... It was good interesting.  The plot "Frakensteined" various Dr. Seuss stories into "Horton hears a Who."

Well that about does it for this week.
Until next week...
