Mending Procrastination and Cake Pops

Hello again,

This week, I wound up cleaning more than anything else.  My space looked like a disaster zone because I had not put things away for a while.  Also this year I'm in the mood to do more Christmas decorating than I have in years.  However, my space needed to be cleaned up before I even consider decorating.

So yet again, I cleaned instead of working through my mending bag.  I do have to at least work on my Mom's pants this upcoming week.

In spite of all this, I did do something creative this week...

I began my Christmas Cake Pops

Cake Pops became my Christmas gift to friends and family years ago.  I was rather broke, but I wanted to give a gift to my special people so that they knew how I felt about them.  Around the time I had been bitten by the Cake Pop bug rather badly.  So I decided that I would make cake pops for gifts.  It was a hit and became a tradition ever since.  Everyone enjoys them.  I once was told that making Cake Pops were my calling.

I do not do boring vanilla or plain chocolate cake pops.  The 2 flavors that I do for Christmas are..

  1. Strawberries & Cream
  2. Raspberry Fudge
These are 2 of my personal top 3 (Caramel Marble Scotchy Swirl is the 3rd).  Actually, I believe that these 2 are in the top 3 of others who have had my flavor combos.

When people find out that I make cake pops, I am asked "How hard is it?"
Believe it or not, it is not hard at all.  It is just time consuming, because of this I break the tasks up to 1 a day.

  • Day 1: Take a box of cake mix & mix it up according to its instructions.  Bake it until it is just done.  You do not want a think crust on the top.  It causes issues when contending with dipping its balled form.  Immediately after the cake comes out of the oven, dump the can of frosting on top of it.  Mix the frosting into the hot cake until everything is the same consistency.  Place mixture into a ziplock bag minus air & place in the freezer.  From here on out the colder the mixture the better.
  • Day 2: Balling.  Using a Medium to Large Cookie Dough Dropper (approximately 1-1.25" diameter) and the plastic ziplock bag to your advantage, divvy up the mixture and roll up each into a ball.  Place in a freezer safe container.  Lunchmeat plastic case packaging is ideal.  Just an FYI 1 full box of cake mix yields approximately 80 Cake Balls
  • Day 3: Dipping.  Only remove a handful from the freezer at a time (3-10).  Dip the tip of the stick into the chocolate (Ghrirardelli is the best), then spear the ball almost completely through.  Then dip in the chocolate and let dry.  Popztee stands are the best for the Cake Pops to dry in.  Popztee stands are dishwasher safe and take the "sucker" not the "lollipop" sticks.
So I have Day 1 completed for both flavors, and I am ready to continue on to Day 2.

That's it for this week.  So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I at least mend my Mom's pants and get to Day 2 of my cake pops by this time next week.

Until next week...
