The countdown continues

Another week down & just 3 more to go...

And I am still feeling nervous about my projects.  Currently I have no place to be this weekend, so I'm planning on making quiche (I can live off of quiche for the weekend) & marathoning at least 1 of my DVD series (Ronin Warriors, Scrapped Princess or Once Upon a Time- not sure which yet) to enable my hunkering down & progressing more. I know my bad habits are beginning to resurface, but I would feel a lil better if I did.  Hopefully, if I make enough headway, I won't have to go to these extremes for the remaining weekends.

Now for this past week...

Last Saturday, I did finish purchasing the trims that I will need for my dress.  I was going to purchase some when I was out, however, there must have been a ribbon holiday or make-a-may-pole in fall day going on, because there was slim pickings at both Joann's & Walmart.  If I need anything else, it will be normal ribbon that I should be able to purchase in town.

Overall the progress that I made was more focused on handstiching prep-work that can travel.

With the Water Lily Dress, I did trace, cut-out & pin the bodice completely together.  Apparently, Chat wanted to assist me in cutting out the pieces.  I did not let him.  Then while I was watching some random TV, I had stitched the darts on the front of the bodice.  I have learned from past experience that it is simpler & easiest to hand-stitch darts.

As for Aqua Mist:
I had decided that I would do the decorative arc on the hood.  Despite the issues that had taken place during my 1st attempt at this cloak 1 year ago, I liked the look of having some of the lining fabric framing me on the outside.  I wanted to take care of the arc before I attached the outer shell & the lining together to keep things neat & clean.  Or at least enable the illusion of things being neat & clean.

After figuring out the arc & remembering the clipping incident with Nellie's Birthday Frill, I made sure that I ran a baste stitch at 1.5 cm along the curve before clipping it.  Due to the constant movement of the stretchy velvet & forgetting about my stabilizer, it took several pinning attempts before I got it where I wanted & needed it.  Somehow, I didn't have enough of the lining cut for the arc, so I added ribbon to the ends.

I did have 1 accident with the hood.  After I got the pinnings where I liked them I thought that I would be nice/ easier if I pressed the arc before sewing.  Well the lining has to be super hot to get rid of wrinkles.  So I had the iron on super hot.  But as soon as something felt wrong I stopped... I got the iron on the velvet a lil, & it was too hot for it that it melted some of the velvet.  Needless to say I did not continue.  Off hand I do not think that it is horribly noticeable, so I kept going.  I did a contrast stitch near where the velvet & arc met.  Then I took embroidery thread & took my most watery decorative stitch & ran it inside the contrast stitch.  Afterwards I took the sew-on jewels that I had bought for the cloak last year that never made it on & used my favorite fabric glue to tack them on until I can sew them on.  Actually I have taken this portion of my hood to work with me & I have sewing them on with some blue & clear glass beads during my breaks.  I am half way through.  Oddly enough I find this type of work very addictive.

During this upcoming week, I would like to have Water Lily completely cut out of its proper fabrics & the Aqua Mist hood to be completely done.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will sit down & focus this weekend so that really all that I will have remaining is the detailing.

Until next week...
