Prepping & Returning to the Drawing Board

Welcome back for another Friday episode,
Where to begin...
in a couple of weeks I might be visiting some of my artsy-creative friends.  If schedules pan out to do this,  we'll be doing an artists' salon where I would be working on my sewing projects.  We actually had done this in the past where I was a dork & packed up everything, even my dress makers dummy.  Although I gave my dummy "Dolly" a desperately needed boob job & marked the knees to be functional & practical for me to work with...
It was too much.  So with the exception of the Cinnamon Slip, I'll be prepping not completing projects so that at the artists' salon all I have to do is the sewing & detailing.

With that disclaimer in place, on to this past week's adventure.

The Cinnamon Slip is almost but not quite finished yet.  It took a while to wrangle someone into adjusting the straps for me, which are now officially sewed into place.  Between the wrangling & the fact that the straps still slip a little, next time I tackle this pattern I might do the straps a lil differently.  But the short of it is that all I have left is to hem it which I didn't want to do until I got the straps in place.

Now onto Nellie's Birthday Frills...
Now than it took a couple of weeks to remember but I finally stitched down portions of the folds so that they can have that crisp fluffy look to them.

Most of the week has been spent on working on the detailing near the lace collar.  In my original concept I needed something to break up all the white & purple that was going on.
I had wanted a ribbon with a design on it but I didn't find one that I liked, which is why I have been working on a rolling stamp with the design that I want on it.  Using my Lino cutters & I believe Lino from the local Dick Blicks store.  I have been carving out channels to keep the ribbon straight when in use.  However, when I was ready to carve out the design I found a problem.
The ribbon that I had planned on using is too narrow for me to carve out the design for.  So I moved onto painting the design...
Still too small.  I'm a lil disappointed because the paints that I had gotten for it are soo cool.  Hopefully I'll have another project that I can use them for before they dry up from age.  So I will just be going with a green ribbon that I was going to put under the painted attempted ribbon.

Next I moved on to the ruffle.  I am currently at 2 attempts.  1 via pulled thread (which kept breaking), the other by using my seam gauge.  There will more than likely be at least a 3rd attempt since I have all the creases going the same direction, however,  I'm just going to sit on that for a bit before I do anything.

I have also pinned lace to ribbon for under the ruffle, which I will sew together soon, because I do not want to travel with pins in things.  Then, outside of tacking on the closure, this project will be on ice for a couple of weeks.

Alright, I know that I am running a lil long this week but there is still one more thing that I worked on.  My Maid Marion Cloak: Aqua Mist.
I got it to be wearable for last year's Renaissance Faire.  But due to time issues & biting off more than I could chew, it wasn't to my satisfaction.  I will be fixing it to be more of what I had originally wanted.  Which means taking portions of it apart, especially the hood., which is where I started & am currently in the process of completing.
The hood I had flubbed up because I didn't understand why the pattern said what it said & I instead did what I thought was correct, which wasn't & turned my hood into a decorative flap.  To add to that was the fact that when I ordered the velvet it was to a different & confusing pattern that required less fabric.  So I just ran out of the fabric on the hood.

This now concludes my long winded & experimental week.  Until next week.
