Playing around with patterns & layouts
Happy Friday! Its been another week.
This past Sunday I tried on the dress that I plan on wearing to this weekend's wedding & realized that it might be nice to have a full slip underneath, which I don't have because I haven't worn one in years. So with that thought & knowing that I have Colette's slip/ cami pattern Cinnamon, I decided to take a small break from Nellie's Birthday Frills.
Couple things though with this pattern. It was only available as a digital download, which is divided up into several pdf files. The files with the patterns on them have a 4"x4" square on it. You have to find that square, print off only that page while fiddling around with the margins until you are able to print it off & it winds up being 4"x4". So you are able to print it off at home. However my experience with it, I would seriously consider taking it to a local copy shop printer and have them play around with the margins & print it off.
I had one of the pdf files printed off for a long while so when I made the decision to work on it I finally pieced it together. When I had originally printed it off the square was a lil bit bigger than 4"x4". Once I pieced it together it wound up be the pattern for the cami & not the top. However I wanted to see how well the bust pieces would fit me, because I could see that being a potential problem area. And since the bust part is the same for both slip & cami I used the pattern pieces that I already had printed out.
Using muslin fabric I cut out the Bodice front & back & pieced together.
It was a lil big but it worked.
Seeing that it worked I found the slip file & printed it off, not double checking the square page but going by the notes that I had scribbled about what I did, which did not include everything because the square wound up a lil smaller than 4"x4". Again next time I would like to talk to the local copy place & see if & how much it'll cost for them to do it.
I then pieced together the pattern which...
could double as a throw blanket for my full sized bed. Piecing the pattern together was straight forward, it just took some time & a lot of packing tape. And because of all that time that is as far as I have gotten with that for this past week
Despite the fact that I would like this for Saturday, I did take a small break to work on a little something for Nellie's Frills. I would like to attach the collar ruffle with decorative ribbon next. However, I haven't found a ribbon with a design that I like, or a decorative stitch on my machine that I am entirely in love with either for this project. So I am considering creating my own rolling stamp with the same design from my Clarise dress for my Cassandra doll that I actually included in my first post.
The plan is to create 3 channels that the ribbon can go through & still remain straight. One channel will contain the entire design the others will be only 1 aspect of the design in case I don't want the entire design to be the same color. Currently I've just managed to do the basics of 2 of the channels.
Thus ends another week here at Adventures in Attire & Accessories & hopefully I will have Cinnamon slip done soon.

I see Chat is trying to help out! :)
ReplyDeleteHe seems to think that I hired him to assist me because I have no cutting table and have to work on the floor. He's done this before with the cloaks.
