Teaser Revealed Part 2

Hello again,

Two weeks ago I posted a "Teaser" picture post, promising that I would explain in a later post.  This is the unveiling of the final "Teaser" from that post.

The China Rose Twirlable Dress has been my major project for this year to date.  When I last left off with it in this blog, I only had 2 tasks left to do in order for it to be complete.
  1. Hand-stitching the bottom of the yoke lining
  2. Hand-stitching the hem

During my breaks at work I had been working on the yoke lining.  Everything was matched up and pinned at home in order for me to simply stitch and go.  I was doing this without a sewing hoop.  After a while I noticed that somehow there was excess fabric.  As I continued further, the excess fabric was growing more and more.  Within 3-5 inches away from completion, I decided to stop.  I had no clue on the what or why of the problem and had no desire to ruin this beautiful dress that I worked so hard on.

Two weeks later I received my weekly Colette Snippet subscription (a free e-mailed subscription that gives short advice on sewing tricks).  Below is the the advice that it gave and the answer that I was looking for with my excess fabric issue.

Use an Embroidery Hoop

When your garment is almost finished, it's tempting to rush through hemming and any final hand stitching. Avoid the temptation!

An embroidery hoop can help you slow down, stabilize your project, and focus on the little details that will make you feel really proud when you wear it.

Since then I managed to dig out my childhood embroidery hoops, so that I can try again.

And this concludes this rendition of Teaser Revealed.  Until next week...
