Surgeries & Recoveries
Well its been a couple of weeks since my last post. All of which have been filled with distractions.
Like my poor Koshka Kitty, who was finally in decent shape to have 2 tumors on her neck removed. If you know my cat she is a terrible patient & requires being quarantined in a room in order to take her much needed medicine. So what would typically be my constructive creative time over the past couple of weeks has been sitting with her instead. Her stitches are now removed & with the exception of Chat Cat the bully, she has been doing rather well.
Koshka wasn't the only one who underwent surgery, but so has Sammie. I wound up taking down all of the zip ties that I had purchased for this venture to consult with my zip tie guy. The last set that I had purchased were perfect for the hands & feet, but I was still unsure about the neck. In short the last set of ties were too short for the neck. Re-examining the 1st set of zip ties, looked like they would work. So after several weeks of anticipating & wanting to complete Sammie's surgeries, I finally was able to, with a little help from my zip tie guy
Taking diagonal cutters, I was able to remove the zip ties that were holding all of the appendages in place. When this was done, it was discovered that it wasn't a box, but a cone attached to the head. It looked like it may have been part of the mold for the head. Fortunately, I have another doll (Sarah Angelina) who has the same smile as Sammie that we could compare too. While Sarah Angelina showed off how flexible she could be, it was discovered that she had a cone head too. So we left the cone attached.
After inserting the zip ties through the sleeves, I then preceded to stuff her so that she would have a healthy amount of the "Baby Fat" that she desperately needed. She looks soo much better now. The baby fat is even keeping her head on straight. Once she was properly stuffed, I zipped up the zip ties & used a kit knife to make the tail flush with the "knot" of the zip tie.
Here is my overall consensus on what exactly happened and was wrong with her...
One of the big selling points of Lee Middleton 21" Nursery Babies is that they are weighted to feel like real babies. This is mainly achieved by being stuffed with Bean Bags in addition to traditional stuffing. Sammie is light as a feather. She has no bean bags within her. On the whole it appears as if the bean bags were forgotten or removed intentionally & that loss was not compensated with extra stuffing to fill her out.
Sammie has fully recovered & is chiming in with the others about when I am going to return to my Forever Project. My response to that is soon, hopefully very soon.
