Prologue to Petal Perfect Ensemble
Hello again,
And thus begins the 1st projects of 2016, the Petal Perfect Ensemble.
This has been patiently waiting to be done for several years. However, with no specific deadline compared to my other projects, it went nowhere fast. The pieces that will be constructed for this ensemble consists of the Merengue Skirt from the Colette Sewing Handbook, that I will be working through this year, and Colette's Hawthorne pattern, with my Pink & Brown Rosey-Dew Cloche hat as my inspirational jumping off point.
This has been soo long in the making. I had originally picked up fabric years ago during my "dye/ tint" phase. Needless to say, I picked up fabric planning on dyeing & tinting them. Fast forward to now, I'm no longer in that phase. With my experiences of dyeing satin, I'd rather not dye fabric if I don't have to. So when I was scouting out possible fabrics & trims for inspiration for my upcoming projects of the year, I came across other fabrics that were better suited for the look that I'm trying to achieve. Now with all my creation elements in place, I am hoping to have this ensemble completed within 2 weeks.
As for what was done this past week to assist in achieving this, I have begun with mocking up the Merengue Skirt. The reason for this was solely for size assessment. I learned from the Colette Cinnamon Slip that I was close in size to 18, I just wanted to double check. If I was close enough, then I wouldn't have to waste anymore time on continuing to trace & expand the pattern on freezer paper like I did last year, for something that I cannot remember. Mocking-up the skirt in muslin, I learned that sewing at 1.5 cm, the skirt does fit me. However to feel better if I'm planning on simply sewing the seam allowance at 1cm for just a smidgen more of room. With this knowledge & re-reading the full instructions on how to construct this project twice, it seems relatively simplish. I'm hoping that it won't take long to complete, since I have a feeling that the top may take a lil longer than the skirt.
Here are the pics from this week for you to enjoy until next time...
