Week 05 & 06 Expanding patterns & handstitching
I apologize for not posting last week. There were a couple of things going on & I wasn't really online at all during that week, which is why there is no official post for week 5.
This does not mean, however that I did not do anything during that week. When looking at the events going on during that weekend & the next I thought that it might be nice to work on my Colette Meringue Skirt pattern. This is amongst the many projects that I have been meaning to do for a while but just never got around to. The pattern comes from the Colette Sewing Handbook, which is set up that once you complete a chapter, you complete a pattern that tests what you just went over. The skirt is a scalloped bottom pencil skirt that goes with the 1st major chapter, which is about transferring cutting patterns. The issue that I have right now is that I am 1-2 sizes outside of the largest drafted size. So week 5 was spent, attempting to expand the pattern so that I could where it.
Using a pencil, Freezer paper, a variety of ruler styles, pattern weights & a nosy living pattern weight. I free hand/ traced 2 of the 5-6 pieces of the skirt pattern. Which took longer than what I was expecting. When I next pick this up, I'm going to use my tracing wheel to trace several of the pattern sizes & see if that will be a lil easier & simpler than what I was doing.
Week 6, I went back to Nellie's sleeves to feel like I'm making a lil bit of progress on something tangible. I have been having second thoughts about the elastic. So right now I am just hand stitching the ribbon to the sleeve & see things from there.

Because Satin is a weave pattern & not a material, my edges were very frayed. So I took my brand new pinking shears & trimmed the sides so hopefully they don't fray any more that they already did.
Well that's it for now. I'm getting a lil antsy for my other projects, especially my Renaissance things, so I'm going to try & wrap up Nellie's frills soon. Hopefully I figure out the sleeves soon.
Yay! All kinds of progress really!
