Frankenstein, Fireworks and Skirts

Hello again,

Happy belated 4th of July. I hope that everyone out there enjoyed your time.  I have.

Exploring Adventures: Frankenstein

It has been a while since I have gone out and about on an adventure.  In short, it has been past time to go out and about.

Recently I purchased a new vehicle, where I upgraded from a car to an SUV.  So as a maiden voyage trip to get acquainted with my new CR-V (Damsel Moonbeam), my friend Samantha and I went to the Actors' Theater of Columbus' Shakespeare at Schiller Park's production of "Frankenstein."  The day before the trip I played around and got Damsel Moonbeam set-up.  After picking up my co-pilot, Samantha, and entering in the destination,  Samantha was the main one playing around with the the tech.

Once we arrived and parked at the Park, Samantha and I set out for Max & Erma's restaurant, which is no longer there.  Upon discovering that we walked to Panera which wasn't too far away from where we were.  We had a pleasant meal as we usually do, then walked back to Schiller Park for the play.

It was an enjoyable production.  According to the website, it was based on the Peake production that was produced 5 years following the publication of Mary Shelley's book Frankenstein.  It was the only production of Mary' book that she ever saw.  She even mentioned to others that she enjoyed it.  There was humor, a little bit of song, and an awesome wig.  Samantha and I both agreed that the ending was anti-climactic, but was still quite enjoyable.

We are both wanting to attend the Actors' Theater of Columbus productions for the rest of the summer, which will include "Puss-N-Boots" and "Midsummer's Night Dream."  Hopefully the stars will align better to do that this year than in past years.

Exploring Adventure: Fireworks

When it comes to 4th of July fireworks, I feel fortunate.  I live about a mile away from the Fairgrounds where the local fireworks are shot off from.  This means that I do not have to contend with finding a parking place or the traffic of the mass exodus of leaving the fireworks show.  In fact, it has been tradition for years that I walk up with my next door neighbor.  The added tradition beginning last year is that the family that I do the sewing lessons with, also walks up with me.

This year we lucked out and were given sparklers from a back alley junk man to take with us to the fireworks.  The sparklers were a big hit with our group and the group of friends that we sat with.  But then again I remember enjoying them when I was little as well.  The fireworks were enjoyable per usual, though I will always wish for a little more altitude.  Then with my flashlight in hand and the police directing traffic, we all walked back home.

Sewing Adventure: Dirdle Skirt Lesson Take 2

I received a message from the Sewing Lesson Mom this past Sunday about if I would like to do a sewing lesson that day.  I said "Yes" and even though it began later than what I would have liked, we achieved the lesson.  Grant it I used my sewing machine to avoid the technical issues of the previous time.  But we were able to achieve 1 Dirdle skirt from start to finish.

  1. It began with "What do you want it to look like?" and the math to achieve that look
  2. Drawing the pattern templates
  3. Cutting the fabric
  4. Pinning the fabric
  5. Sewing the skirt
  6. Finishing the skirt
I admit that I did some of the work to speed up time but made the Daughter watch what I was doing.  However, I made sure that she touch at least a little bit of each process.  If she doesn't do the work, how will she know how to do it?

We did take a few sewing breaks during the lesson.  The Father had recently purchased a Side-by-Side, in which I was given a ride and a tour of the grounds.  It rattled my head too much that I had a head-ache and wasn't up for much the next day.  We also took a S'Mores break as well, which was delicious.

In the end the Dirdle skirt with an asymmetrical over-skirt detailing, was completed.  During the fireworks I was informed that Kaya likes the skirt so much that she has not taken it off yet.

Well that's about it for this week, talk to you again next week.
