Artist Salon 2017 Part1

It's summertime, which means that I visit friends and work on fun projects.

This year Isabelle has talked herself into coming along with me this year.  She has been wanting to assist with my projects but things haven't worked out for her to do that yet.  She was also curious about what an Artist Salon was seeing me pack up random things for 3 projects.  So Isabelle packed up her sewing machine and basket to work on projects with me.  She has been enjoying herself and having fun.

Isabelle has helped out quite a bit with completing the Peacock Garden dress.  We took turns with the seam ripper, removing stray basting/ gathering stitches as well as the lining attachment to the zipper.

It took sleep and re-reading the section on how to install an invisible zipper to lining before the instructions clicked with me.  Now that I know how to do it  I will be changing it up a little bit before the next time.  Because I love using the water soluble double stick tape for preliminary zipper attachment rather than pinning, I will tape both the lining and outer fabric to the zipper then sew all 3 together at one time.  Another thing that I will complete next time is simply use the serger stitch on my machine to "Finish" off the seam where the zipper is attached.  I had done my Pinking Shears prior to zipper attachment as recommended.  It is typically recommended, because it isn't the easiest to complete afterwards.  The issue that I came across is that between the tape and what was pinked showing some of the tape, my foot was sticking to the tape.  Fortunately I had some fabric scraps that I could temporarily use to cover the exposed tape.

With the zipper finally corrected and complete, I was good to work on the hems.  First was a blind hem on the Lining which is very straight forward and easy once I remembered how exactly the blind hem stitch on my machine work.  Afterwards was the completing the hem on the outer eyelet fabric.  For that I folded the fabric over the baste stitch pinning Water Soluble Embroidery stabilizer in place.  Then  I ran 3 rows of scalloped edging at the bottom for the hem.  With the rows complete, the hem was then trimmed to the bottom-most row of scallops.

So Peacock Garden is now 100% complete, and I couldn't be happier with it.

I did take some time away from this project to work on Raspberry Fudge Cake Blobs (was supposed to be Cake Pops, but were so big and heavy all but 3 slip down their sticks).  I also managed to visit a college friend for dinner, where we had a good chit-chat and played around with Siri.  After-which, I was so close to Glamorgan castle I had to walk the grounds.  I miss going by their on my walks.

That's good for now there will be more on the Artist Salon next week.  Until then here are some pics...
