Holiday Belt

Sometimes in life when you feel a bit daunted, you just need to jump on in.  I think that I need to make this my motto for next year. "Just dive on in."

I have done a little since the last time I posted, but I hadn't gotten around to writing about it.  Like usual, whenever I think about wanting to do something, sewing or writing, it is at an inopportune moment.  So even though I haven't done much, I've felt a little daunted on where to start.  So here I goes... minus pics because I'm having technical difficulties right now.

My Holiday Belt Round 1
I needed a new holiday dress, because as much as I loved my previous one, it doesn't fit me well right now.  So I bought a pretty wine colored lace dress.  But it needed a belt.  When I went to Charming Charlies' to find a belt, one of the sales girls said that some people take some of the ribbon headbands & turn them into belts.  One of these I really liked & went perfectly with everything else I had for my holiday dress.  The problem was that it was snagging the lace of my dress.  I went to JoAnn's & picked up various things that might assist with remedying the problem of the headband snagging the dress but at the same time not wanting to turn it into only a belt.

My initial decision was to attach buttons that went well with the head band to a sheer white ribbon, that would simply tie as a bow in the back.  I wanted the sheer because it complimented and contrasted with the rest of the ensemble.  The buttons were to tie the headband ribbon ends to.  I had hoped that would be enough to keep the headband in place on the belt.  It didn't, so I used some accessory tape to keep it from falling.

Then came the main run with the belt...

I wore my holiday ensemble, to the Nutcracker this past Sunday.  Even though the belt started off well, by the end it was sad.  The sheer ribbon was neither sturdy nor wide enough to last.  Fastening the belt via tying it into a bow made this worst.  The accessory tape even gave out before the end of the Nutcracker.

So the learning experience of this is that I need a belt that is sturdier, wider and has more "anchors" to keep the headband in place while on the belt.  So I have some thinking to do about this.

Until next time...
